Finding Your Fulfilling Purpose- Janell Kremer

PSX_20140621_170124_wmAn Interview with Janell Kremer author of the Mustard Seed Family.

Q: Share a little background about yourself.

A: My name is Janell Kremer and I blog at mustardseedfamily.com.
I am a Suzy homemaker, hairstylist, teacher, mom, and wife. My daughter is almost 20 months old, and I’ve enjoyed staying home with her this last year. My husband is a musician, Mr. Fix-it, and an IT guru. I am currently pregnant with our second child and we looking forward to meeting this little miracle in April of 2015.
My blog is about mom life, where you will find great recipes, diy projects, hair tutorials, and more. Besides all that fun stuff I also share some of my heart, and a lot of my faith. My goal as a blogger is to create a place of inspiration where we can encourage one another and follow God’s calling in our lives.

Q: For God has “called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which as given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” (2 Timothy 1:9) When and how did you know what God’s plan was for you?

PicsArt_1403033371965_wmA: It took me a while to find God’s plan (while learning to give up my own), and I think it’s a continuous process that we have to choose daily. I know that I’m doing what God has called me to do because of the peace that I feel in my soul. Besides feeling at peace I have also come across many attacks from the devil to get me off the path. Those roadblocks only confirmed that I am doing what God has called me to do.

Q: Once the Lord spoke to you about your purpose did you obey right away or did you struggle?

A: I’ve struggled with obeying. I consider myself to at times act like Jonah and run away from God’s plan because it was scary. Once I started to trust and obey, God rewarded my obedience by blessing me in some way.

Q: What obstacles did you have to overcome and/or still run into?

A: My main obstacle is self-image. I am 8 years into recovery from anPicsArt_1404275638425_20140702095741536_wm (1) eating disorder and although I don’t starve myself or make myself puke anymore, I still have those thoughts in my head that I’m worthless. God is teaching me to fight those thoughts with scripture, and I can’t explain how incredibly powerful that has been.

Q: Is what you are doing currently fulfilling? In what ways?

A: Each day I face new challenges and struggles, but I do believe that what I’m doing matters. I may not see the fruits of my labor right away, but I believe that my faithfulness to God’s calling will produce an abundance of fruit later on. Being a stay-at-home-mom has been the best job that I’ve ever had, and I feel fulfilled by watching my daughter grow and learn things that I have taught her. Blogging has opened me up to a world of wonderful Christ-filled moms who are very supportive and wise. I feel as if entering that world is fulfilled the drive in me to show my creative side, which is necessary in order to keep my life balanced.

Q: Do you recall a time when you lacked peace about a job or situation and how God delivered you out of it?

A: I took a job at a daycare when I first became pregnant with my daughter. I was hired during the first interview which I found odd. Throughout my training I had an uneasy feeling about the atmosphere of that daycare that only got stronger the longer I was there. After four days I was assaulted by a ten year old child and decided that was my confirmation that this was the wrong job for me. I quit on the spot and felt peace immediately after doing so.

Q: What advice to you have for women who are still searching to fulfill their purpose?

A: Keep praying for God to reveal His purpose. Seek in not only 20141003_164607_wmthrough prayer, but also by reading the word of God daily. Also, give up your plans. They may be hindering you from God’s best for your life. Your plans may sound wonderful but if they aren’t in line with God’s will, your plans will never succeed.

I want to thank Janell for allowing me to interview her and I recommend following her blog as I do myself!

Finding Your Fulfilling Purpose- Nichole Howson

photo 5aAn Interview with Nichole Howson, author and creator of defyingshadows.wordpress.com.  Nichole is a Business student who grew up in a town outside of Windsor, Ontario, on a dairy and cash crop farm where she learned what it means to work hard, and what is involved to be successful. She is an avid coffee lover who enjoys a good action film or a chick flick, depending on the day, and enjoys reading both non-fiction and fiction books in her spare time. She takes great joy in organizing, scheduling, and participating in social media. She has a passion for volunteerism, but more specifically helping those who are hurting, whether it is emotionally, physically, or mentally. Nichole hopes that her future career will embrace these passions, and allow her to help others in a larger capacity.

Q: For God has “called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which as given to us in Christ Jesus before time began” (2 Timothy 1:9) When and how did you know what God’s plan was for you?

A: I knew that God had great plans for me when I was in High School. I knew I would be involved in a ministry but I was unsure as to what ministry it might be. I thought maybe I was meant to be a pastor, so when I started college I began attending Bible College.

I soon learned that God had a different plan for me. It wasn’t to be a pastor. I learned that my Ministry may not be as big as I thought, but it is most important to God.

Q: Once the Lord spoke to you about your purpose did you obey right away or did you struggle?

A: When I finally head the purpose that God had for me, I waited. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to open up about my deepest and darkest moments and bare my soul to world. I spent time in prayer and God showed me that although I felt I might not be ready, that I was in fact more than ready and should be excited to share my passions with others.

Q: What obstacles did you have to overcome and/or still run into?

A: Having a ministry that includes writing about Mental illness is purposehard. It is hard to hear the stories of others who are struggling. The first email I received sharing their heart breaking story, I cried. But I knew that I needed to pray. I prayed for that person. I prayed for me. I prayed and I asked God what wisdom He wanted to share with that person. I let God lead my words and when I did that, it suddenly became easier. Sure, it is still hard, but I have a peace that comes from my faith in Christ.

Q: Is what you are doing currently fulfilling? In what ways?

A: When I first started my Blog, I told my friends and family that this made me happy. It really did. It is so fulfilling knowing that you are doing what God wants for you. Knowing that you are fulfilling God’s purpose for you life.

Q: Do you recall a time when you lacked peace about a job or situation and how God delivered you out of it?

A: Ever since I started my blog, the Devil has been attacking me. I struggle with mental illness just as my followers do. The Devil attacked me and slowly slid anxiety, fear, and depression back into my life. Writing blog posts on being happy, or trusting God suddenly became so much harder. When I realized that I was under the attack of the Devil I prayed. I asked God to heal me and show me what He wants me to do next. When I put my trust in God, my peace was restored.

listen to his voiceQ: What advice to you have for women who are still searching to fulfill their purpose?

A: If you are still searching to fulfill your purpose, please keep praying! Even if you have found your purpose, keep praying. God will show you what He wants you to do. It might not be right away. He might only show you the first step in His plan, but follow Him and your purpose will be made clear.

I would like to thank Nichole for taking the time to be interviewed and sharing a piece of herself with all of you.

How Rude!

A very important pet peeve of mine is DON’T BE RUDE!! The other day I was out shopping with my two kids who are 3 years old and one 16 months old, oh and yes I’m also 6 months pregnant. Needlessly to say getting in and out of the car can be a task so I try to plan it out beforehand to make it as easy as possible. This is how the plan normally goes…

I try to find a parking spot next to a shopping cart and also not right up front so I wouldn’t be in the way of someone. To be considerate I also try not to park next to other cars because I’m nice like that or I really don’t want to risk hitting there car with my door.  With this plan I normally am able to get in and out pretty easily and quickly.

However on this particular trip I was leaving and I pulled my cart with kids inside next to the car so I could easily lift them out and right into the car.  Before I could even open my car door a lady parked right beside me to the point now I’m stuck and unable to open the door!!! What made it worse was that there were plenty of closer parking spaces open!! ARGH!!! She looked at me while I tried to squeeze out with my cart so she could open her door to get out. I was steaming at this point and when she got out she didn’t say one word to me. I looked my daughters and very loudly sad “Some People are so RUDE!”

Once I got into the car and headed home I begin to feel very convicted about what I had said and my attitude poor this women. So that night I did some scripture searching on how my heart should have been in the situation.  Here are a few things I found…

but I say unto you, Love your enemies, and pray for them that persecute you; (Matthew 5:44)

above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins: (1 Peter 4:8)

And of course 1 Corinthians 13

After reading all of these and many more verses on how important to be loving towards others, it got me to really think about this lady’s life.  I don’t know if she is a fellow believer going through a really hard time or a non-believer walking in darkness (1 John 2:11). Am I saying that from now on I am always going to love on everyone, of course not! I am human and unfortunately have moments where I am less than Christ like this just means that I will be praying for the Lord to change my heart and to see people, yes even rude people through His eyes.

What do you do to remind you that God loves and cares for everyone and so should we?

Gone Fishin’ (for compliments)

I d0020fe789bc25963fe24740d9744755bon’t know about you but I am so blessed to be married to such a godly man who runs our household very well. With that said he is not one to shower me with compliments  needlessly and with my unnecessary need for affirmation I go fishing for them. Here is an example of a conversation we may have where I have gone fishin’.

imagesMe: “How was dinner?”
Husband: “It was fine.”
Me: “But you don’t love it? Would you want me to make it again?”
Husband: “I don’t care honey, I loved it! Is that what you want me to say.”
Me: “Only if you mean it.”

As I am reading this I realize how annoying I am. My poor husband comes home from a long day of work and all he wants to do is eat dinner and here I am drilling him with questions just so I can get some kind of compliment out of him. Good Grief, I need help! Even when I do finally catch a compliment from him because I went fishing for it doesn’t have the same effect as when he gives me one completely on his own. For example:

Text Messages:
Me: “Please pray for me!! Can’t find my licenses anywhere, can I not have just one good day where nothing goes wrong?”
Me: “I feel like I’m in an emotional boxing match with the devil and I’m not sure how much longer I’m going to last.”
Husband: “Praise God!! You must be doing something right, keep blogging!”

When my husband compliments me on my walk with the Lord that trumps any compliment he could ever give me on what I made for dinner. Those are the compliments I should seek and the only way I will get those is if I keep my focus on the Lord and serving Him. Not by nagging my poor husband or striving to please him just so he can say “That was yummy”.

Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife. ~Proverbs 21:19

Lord, Please help me to keep my eyes on you and to seek to only please you! I know that in pleasing you it will in return please my husband. Help me to not fish for compliments with husband or anyone else for that matter and if I do relieve it to me so I may put a stop to it. In Jesus name Amen!

Finding Your Fulfilling Purpose

“who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,”
2 Timothy 1:9

Reading this verse made me question what God’s purpose for my life wastumblr_m8lzbhQQ2x1rr4b87 and was I fulfilling it? I really struggled that staying home taking care of the kids was my full purpose in life that there  had to be more something bigger I was meant to do. My husband goes to work everyday and comes home with a new story about who he shared the Gospel with and I think to myself how rewarding that must feel going to bat for God everyday.

It wasn’t until I shared my concerns with my pastor’s wife when she so lovingly explained to me that every victory my husband has is a victory I share with him. He wouldn’t be able to do what he does with out the support of me praying for him and taking care of the kids and household. She also went on to explain that since my children are so young God may have me in a season where my family is my purpose and when they are older perhaps God will have different plans. I was so encouraged by what she had to say and the fact that she too struggled with the same thing when her children were young. (Shows the importance of sharing with one or two trusted people because if I was left alone with my thoughts I could of easily fallen into a depression.)

having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)

So with a new outlook on my life I am finding fulfillment in the smallest of things. When my daughter remembers something we learned in home school or when my youngest prays when we have a meal.

jeremiah 29 11Since I struggled to find my fulfilling purpose at first, I will be doing a series every Friday of other women who found God’s purpose for their lives. I hope this series encourages you to listen for God’s voice and obey so you may live up to your potential!

Looking Good!

Early in my marriage I use to joke about now I no longer have to try so hard to impress him he’s stuck with me now. How wrong I was!!! We are to honor our husbands with our behavior as well as our appearance while also not becoming vain. I know, I know…what you’re saying “When do I have time after getting the kids ready?” or “He never takes me out or gives me a reason to get dressed up.” It doesn’t matter if you have a date night once a month or never, LADIES it’s our duty to earn that second look from our man!! Just like we want our husbands to still be romantic and surprise us once in awhile we should do the same just in a more visual way. (wink, wink) So break out the heels, dust off the make-up bag, plug up the straighter, spray on some perfume and go get your MAN!!! (by man I mean your husband only, of course)

In honor of Looking Good! I will be doing a giveaway that just might come in handy, don’t worry it’s nothing weird I promise!

I will be giving away 12 free redbook subscriptions. (picture on the left) I will also be giving away 12 L’Oreal Goodie Bags just as pictured on the right. So 24 prizes in all just click the link below to enter!
